The Emerald Tablet
"As below, so above; and as above so below. With this knowledge alone you may work miracles."
This is one of the statements taken from the Emerald Tablet. While there exist different opinions as to the source of the Emerald Tablet and also different translations, it supposedly came from an inscription found on an emerald tablet in the hands of a mummy in a pit close to the pyramid of Giza. Some thought it to be part of a book of "Advice for Kings."
The name generally associated with the Emerald Tablet is Hermes Trismegistus and here too exist various interpretations as to the actual identity.
The translation above is done by Fulcanelly and represents what I consider to be the clearest translation.
Regardless as to the true origin, there is a truth expressed here that is awe-inspiring.
The statement indicates that the laws that apply in the macrocosmic frame of things apply the same in the microcosmic frame.
The Universe was created by a thought that emanated from the Mind of God. A thought from the Mind of God created instant manifestation of nuclear proportions and in never-ending, multi-layered dimensions on scales vast and infinite as to be beyond our imagination.
It created also the soul of man. The soul of man is a reflection of the Being that is God. In Hinduism the distinction between Jivatman and Paratman was made. The individual soul and the Universal Soul.
Just as a drop is made of the same stuff as the ocean, so do we compare to the Great Presence of God. We are made from the same essence, a miniature version of the Big Picture.
The laws that govern the Creative Process, govern us. If we start to inquire with all of the strength in our heart and to find out about the laws of the Universe, which fascinatingly are not known to the average person, find them and then apply them, we shall be able to create miracles in our lives. There is nothing we cannot achieve, because the Creative Principle of God applies to us the same way.
That is what those two statements mean.
