On Pain and Pleasure

Most human choices are based on (avoiding) pain and (gaining) pleasure. Very few people seek to go beyond those polarities. It is for that reason that the ancient yogis spoke of "RAGA DVEGA KLESHA", which means "like and dislike are obstacles". Shakyamuni solved the problem by extuingishing all desires within him. While this being an achievement of great virtue, it does not seem to offer itself as practical solution to everyday life. However, to reflect on what might be a wise choice to pursue is entirely feasible.
